Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple Ramboda

Located on a summit of the picturesque mountain in Ramboda, the Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple is one of the important Hanuman Temples in Sri Lanka.  It is about 30 kms from Nuwara Eliya and the temple is dedicated to the God Hanuman and this is one of important sites of the Ramayana Trail in Sri Lanka. An 18ft statue of Lord Hanuman towers at the entrance which is the tallest Hanuman statue in Sri Lanka. This temple was constructed in 1999 and it is believed that Hanuman was searching for Sita Devi and still there are some Ramayana facts available in this area e.g. a village called “Ravana Goda” close to this Bhakta Hanuman Temple. The Tamil word for Ramboda, Rampadai, means “Rama’s force”, this is why Ramboda is believed to be the area where Rama collected his troops. Also it is believed this was the place where Lord Hanuman took rest while on his way to search Sita.

The special pooja is conducted on full moon Poya days which is a grand event during which the statue of Lord Hanuman is nicely decorated with flowers and silk. The celebrations for Hanuman Jayanthi, the birthday of Lord Hanuman, starts here 10 days before and ends in an inspiring manner with chariots and parades.

The temple is open daily from 7 AM to 1 PM / 3.30 PM to 6.30 PM. You need to be appropriately dressed when visiting the temple, ensure to cover your knees & shoulders.
